Brits embrace the gloss
Sales of prestige lip gloss products in the UK reported an increase of 3% in the period July 2019 to the end of September 2019, according to The NPD Group.
A key trend from the ‘90s, lip gloss has witnessed a resurgence over the last 12 months as more consumers embrace the iconic beauty look. The latest products available are now formulated with skin care benefits providing consumers with a more sleek and shiny effect, rather than leaving lips feeling sticky and gloopy.
The beauty product is also seen as an affordable way to embrace prestige designer brands, with the average sale price of a prestige lip gloss said to be £19.06, giving consumers the chance to add a luxury item to their make-up bag. Light pink, dark pink and rose were cited as the most popular shades overall.
The sales of lip gloss, valued at £4.5 million in this three-month period, have provided a welcome boost to the make-up market. The NPD Group reported that overall cosmetics sales declined 5% from July to September 2019, compared to the same period in 2018.
